New Work: Arkansas series

From left to right, smoked dogwood buds with a red underglaze, smoked raintree pods and dirt from my front yard fired to cone 04. The boxes were salvaged from an optometrist’s office.

Something really cool about those raintree pods. I like the underglaze revealed through those cracks, especially. It reminds me of the way the ground cracked as a result of the big Alaska earthquake of 1964 (which I witnessed).

There was some snow on the ground, and then these deep fissures opened up, and the effect was really striking (as well as scary).

I wish I had time this week to comment more, but I’m linking your post on unimaginative houses.
